2015 03 28 Three Towers

With a forecast of gales & rain it was surprising to see 25 die hards turn up for the walk. After tea & toast at the sailing club we headed towards Turton Tower (not one of the towers!!), waterproofs were rapidly donned. Then came the steady ascent up to Winterhill, blowing a gale on top & driving rain. We had a welcome elevenses at the Pidgeon tower & there was a view in the distance. Over great hill in the bogs then lunch stop at Tockholes visitor centre. Then a long way round for a very steep ascent up to the 2nd tower Darwen. Again wind & rain at the top!! Now we headed to Entwistle resevoir & the Strawbury Duck for a break. We were doing a good pace with Steve keeping us going. It was now the tail end of the 2xxs circuit to get us back up and over Bull Hill & the final tower, Peel Tower (no sign of any helicopters today Chris!!).
We arrived back at the club at 7.30pm suitably drenched & weary legs, but hot soup, cakes & tea soon cheered everyone up.
Thanks to Steve Clarke for leading the walk, Julie Spencer for making cakes & being photographer for the day, Chris's wife Linda for cakes & serving soup, a great training walk for everyone well done.

Thanks to Cath, Chris and his wife Linda for use of the sailing club and refreshments.
