Nook to Bishop....Check...And back.

12 attended including leader...and two dogs.

Weather: initially dull and rainy then clearing in the afternoon.

Set off from Daisy Nook via tow paths and footpaths to Park Bridge. Followed the Rocher vale path to cross Lees rd and onwards over Lees bridleways and riverside path on the Oldham Way to emerge on the A62. We then carried on to Strinedale country park where we had our first break. After a short break we made our way past the reservoirs and started to climb towards Bishops Park where we encountered snow that had settled earlier that morning.

We didn't linger at the obelisk as the wind had picked up and everyone soon got chilly.

We dropped onto Hill top lane and took the right turn on the rather muddy Badgers Edge Lane and carried on past the Roe Buck Inn. We then went left over mucky fields to bring us out at 'Top'o the meadows' where I pointed out the infamous sign saying that 'In 1875...Nothing happened here'.

Carried on using lanes and fields down to Austerlands and made our way to Grotton via Stone Breaks. Had lunch break by the stream by which time the sun made an appearance.

After lunch, carried on up via Kiln Farm to reach Back Lane which took us to Hartshead pike summit. Extremely windy but was a first time experience for some of the group.

Wound our way off the Pike via the old isolation hospital and muddy fields. Crossed Lees road and diverted over to the old rail track and past Limehurst Farm. Made our way back to Daisy Nook through woodland paths by the river Medlock.

Distance turned out to be 16.5 miles but suspect the walk had shrunk as I had worked it out to 18!

People seemed to have had a good day and enjoyed it.......Hopefully.
