The parking is in Stour Meadows carpark (GR ST 887 060)  which is free.  For those unfamiliar with Blandford, this south of the River Stour,  behind the brewery and  is accessed by passing the entrance into Tesco’s superstore. It is not the same place as the  main town centre carpark, which is pay and display.

The walk will be about 18 miles, and there  is no pub stop or tea shop.  Conditions underfoot on our recce weren’t too bad, with the obvious caveat that where there is mud, it could be very muddy . The route has some interesting features – we will see more of Blandford Camp than I ever realised existed,   and  some fine woodland after lunch. And some snowdrops.
