Dear Member

Many of you will be aware that our group organised the Cerne Giant Challenge event last Sunday March 19th for the first time since before Covid.  This event offers a 30-mile and a 20-mile route and is deceptively challenging with plenty of Dorset ‘bumps’.  Over 30 Dorset LDWA members formed an impressive team to get and keep the show on the road and the day went without a hitch.  We had 142 starters with only two retirees.  I know that Tracey Lang has emailed all the volunteers but as Group Chair I would like to personally thank each and every one of you.  It was a long day but one that I found extremely rewarding.

As an organising team we are well aware that the weather was in our favour on the day however below are some of the comments that have been emailed to us since the event.  This is in addition to the thanks and congratulations from participants as they left at the end of the day.

“What a fantastic challenge greeted us today with The Cerne Giant! Fabulous route with amazing views and you even laid on some glorious weather, thank you and well done to you and your amazing team for such dedication and commitment to making the event so enjoyable for us all. We were all very grateful for the smiling faces of your team too!!
I hope it was a successful day for yourself and the LDWA Dorset group.”

“My husband Andy and I have just completed the 30 mile cerne giant walk today and I just wanted to thank you and your fabulous team for such a wonderful event. The organisation, route, food, and kindness of the volunteers were all exemplary.
Thank you for all your hard work.”
“A fabulous event and terrifically organised, well done ”

“Just a quick line to say thank you to you and the group for a fantastic day out.  Yes, I’ve done it before so the route held no surprises but I enjoyed it immensely.  Very slick start.  Check-points were great, difficult to leave.  Super service at the finish.

My first proper challenge walk since August 2019.  Even with that break I still could not get out of my system the urge to catch up with the person in front.

Thanks for posting the results so quickly.  I hadn’t realised there were quite that many entrants.  I guess you were very pleased.

I tried to thank as many people as I could at the checkpoints and at the end but I’m sure I missed some.  So could you please thank them all for me.”

A quick reminder to all members that we will be organising the Dorset Doddle linear Challenge event on Sunday 20th August 2023 with the Marshalls walk (for Doddle volunteers) taking place on Sunday 30th July 2023.  We will need volunteers for both events so please email Richard Lang dorset.ldwa.events@gmail.com to offer your help.

Best wishes,

Heather
