Travel: in Windsor & to Hackney

This page mainly covers public transport and walking options in getting from the two Windsor railway stations to Trevelyan Middle School, and from Trevelyan to Gainsborough Primary School in Hackney, the event start assembly location. It also covers local street mapping and parking, and getting driving directions.

In Windsor, Trevelyan Middle School is the event main HQ, departure point for coaches and a car parking location for the event finish. In Hackney, Gainsborough Community Primary School is the assembly point for the event start where coaches will drop off. The nearest station to Gainsborough is Hackney Wick, very close by. The instructions below are to assist in getting to Trevelyan on foot from the Windsor stations and for getting from here to Gainsborough (for example if parking at Trevelyan on Friday evening to go to accommodation near Gainsborough, or for later starters on Saturday crossing after coaches leave).

Detailed route instructions are downloadable on these links, including rail and bus options for crossing London:

For travel by public transport from other locations see the Ways to do the Event page. To get to Gainsborough School in Hackney, Stratford is a nearby major hub linking to London rail terminii and it links to Hackney Wick by the Overground (one stop). As Stratford is on the other side of the Olympic Park it is a long way to walk.

There is a useful map of Windsor Centre with stations marked, along with parking places (chargeable) downloadable here. This map does not quite extend to Trevelyan School - the school is further along Bolton Avenue off the south of the map, crossing ahead to Wood Close, but the school website has a local map here and to find directions on Google maps use this link.

The Route Map page has links to Streetmap mapping - to use these from the Route Map page, use the left hand menu to select the Checkpoints, zoom the map, click the relevant site button and then site name link. On the site page click the Streetmap button and zoom fully for detailed local street-mapping. These checkpoint/HQ pages give postcodes for SatNavs for all these locations. Using these postcodes with Google or Bing maps provides driving directions. There is no car parking at Gainsborough Primary School. As Gainsborough and the Marshals Walk HQ (in Victoria Park, also restricted short term parking nearby) are close together and both are shown, ensure the right icon is clicked by fully zooming the map.
