Cairn Gorm Mountain Loop

Walk Details:
Heading NE up Glen More to the Ryvoan Pass, then SE on mountain paths to the shoulder of Bynack More & then descending southward to the Fords of Avon for a lunch break. Then west to Loch Avon in the heart of the Cairngorms, before ascending Coire Raibeirt to spot height 1141. NW down the Fiacaill a Choire Chais (ridge) to the ski area & good paths back down to the start point. All on good tracks & mountain paths with 3021ft of ascent (921m)

Walk Report
Nine North of Scotland members and one guest completed this 18 mile mountain route in 9 hours, in good weather with no snow fields to cross on Cairn Gorm. This included a long lunch stop at the Ford of Avon refuge hut and several refreshment stops afterwards. The paths to the half way lunch spot at the refuge hut were good and rapid progress was made, but the narrow boggy path to the start of the Coire Raibeirt exit path and then up the steep ravine was much slower until wide Coire above. From spot height 1141m it was just a matter of descending the ridge and into the Coire Cas ski area. From the ski lodge it was a short walk down the ski road and then good zig zag and forestry tracks back to the start point at the Glenmore road junction.Other Files
