Walk Report

5 members of the North of Scotland LDWA group completed this 21 mile loop route in the Finderne area in relatively dry conditions. The walk started from Dallas Dhu Distillery at 9am and headed north for a short way on the Dava Way to Sanquhar Farm bridge, from where to traversed the southern edge of the Sanquhar woods to the flood alleviation dam and Cathay House. Then through the Newforres quarry woodlands on rough trod paths to Templestones and then up to Califer Hill on the quiet public road. Cutting off east before the Califer viewpoint on the Califermoss track and then down the Sourbank woodland paths to the Rafford Village Hall for a well deserved late morning bacon roll, cakes and a coffee at the community cafe This takes place on the first Saturday of every month form 10 to 12am and is a great opportunity for local walkers to have a refreshment break. From Rafford we headed to Woodside and the Altyre Parklands on forestry and estate tracks to Sluie, passing many historical landmarks and beautiful mature trees. From here we took the Sluie upper walk to connect with the Logie Estate path network to the Logie Steading Cafe, our Lunch stop. After lunch we decide not to head to the Dava Way for a stride out back, but instead elected to walk along the Findhorn River paths down to Rivermeads and then east to Blair's Loch and back through the Altyre Parklands to our finish point back at Dallas Dhu Distillery. The route was just shy of 21 miles long. Many thanks to Lesley, Tom, Angela and Jenny for coming along for the adventure. A great walk in good dry weather despite the damp forecast.
