Bennachie Loop

Walk Details:
Starting with a steep climb from the visitor centre (where toilets are available) to the remains of the fort on the distinctive summit of Mither Tap (518m). Then traverse the length of Bennachie via craggy tors, before dropping down to visit the Cothiemuir stone circle. Returning along a minor road, known as 'My Lord's Throat' before a final climb up Millstone Hill before returning to the visitor centre. There will be the option of returning directly to the visitor centre omitting Millstone Hill for anybody wishing to do a slightly shorter route

Walk Report
Nine members and two dogs took part in a tour of the tops of the distinctive Bennachie ridge in Aberdeenshire. The walk started with a steep climb to the ancient fort on a very blustery Mither Tap, before following the 'quarry trail' to the highest point of the ridge at Oxen Craig. We then departed from marked trails to reach Watch Craig and then descend the west of the ridge to visit Cothiemuir stone circle. Our return was initially along a quiet road known as 'My Lord's Throat' to reach the waymarked trail heading over Millstone Hill and back to the visitor centre. Conditions were cool with a strong northerly wind which dropped during the day.Other Files
