Walk Report

10 members of the North of Scotland LDWA completed this 10 mile foray into the west coast mountains in brilliant sunny weather with a nice gentle breeze on top of the hill. After being dropped off by the Osprey minibus at Achnashellach, we made our way on good mountain tracks to Coire Lair where the group split into 2 groups. Roger lead 8 members up to do the Beinn Liath Mhor ridge, whilst Dave and Pete continued up Coire Lair to the bealach between the two Munro mountains (670m). From here Pete popped up Sgorr Ruadh (962m) and then joined Dave back at the bealach for lunch. From here Dave made his way down to the Ling Hut and pickup point in Glen Torridon, whilst Pete headed up hill to meet Roger's party on the summit of Beinn Liath Mhor (926m) at 3pm. The descent from here to the mountain track was very rough and challenging for some members, but as soon as we got to lower ground the walking was much easier down to the Ling hut and pickup point. Having 3 experienced hill walkers in the group proved very useful in allowing the group various route options to suit the preferences of the members. A great day out in the hills on what might have been the best day of summer. Many thanks to Dave for organising the walk and Trevor for providing the transport and refreshments at the end.
