Walk Report

Perfect weather for walking, sunny intervals and a very gentle breeze. Starting from the Edinkillie Village hall, 8 walkers went south along the Dava Way for 2 miles, then east to the start of the Via Regia at the Bridge of Bantrach. Going south along farm tracks past farm ruins of Glenmore and Lynagowan. There was some entertainment crossing the River Divie at a ford, with some choosing to take boots and socks off to paddle through, whilst others chose to rock hop. Though a dark wood at Lynagowan to the Moray/Highland wrought iron boundary gate. No sign of the track to follow at this point, so it was a matter of following the Ourack Burn for about 1 km to the Ourack farm ruin, where the via Regia route reappears. At this point we headed west along a moorland vehicle track towards Aittendow ruin. ÃÆ'‚bout ½ km before the ruin we headed north over heather moorland to the summit of Carn Ruigh Thuim (404m) for magnificent views of the Moray Firth and beyond to the north and the Cairngorm mountains to the south. Heading north down the hill to a lunch break at the Dava Way Half Way Hut. From here everyone went at their own pace along the way marked Dava Way for the last 5 miles back to the Edinkillie VH for the Spring Tea and Cakes event, a great way to end the 15 mile loop walk.
