Newsletter - August 2026
Hi everyone.
There's just enough time left to send out this newsletter before I head off on holiday. Thank you to Janette who has been keeping me informed as to what to expect. Looking at the weather forecast, she may have had the better walking conditions.
As I mentioned in the last newsletter. the committee has a meeting to look forward to on the 24th. I recently sent members some thoughts regarding the organisation of the Pewsey Downsaround, as well as other matters, including what we might need to change if we're subject to multiple heatwaves in the coming months and years. What I forgot to include, was something on publicity, i.e. raising awareness of our group's walks in Wiltshire. What I would like is to start promoting our activities on social media. I already promote my Ramblers group on town, village and local events Facebook pages across northwest Wiltshire, which collectively have more than 100,000 followers. I'd like to roll this out for this group to all the major settlements in the county. If you are a member of a Facebook page in your local area, and would like to help promote the Wiltshire LDWA, please get in touch.
We still have the Treasurer role to fill if anyone is interested. Dave will write what the role actually involves, for inclusion in the next newsletter. Having said that, it maybe that we can offer a lucky group member the Secretary role instead. If the latter interests you, please let us know.
Our programme of walks is still looking reasonably good. I understand we may also have a walk on 4th October to look forward to. Owing to not wanting to recce my next walk during the heatwave, I have postponed it two weeks to 6th September. It would be lovely to welcome some new walk leaders onto the list. If you're interested, please get in touch with Lucy at wiltshire.walkssecretary@ldwa.org.uk. Let's get some dates filled as soon as possible.
