The Hunnypot Hundred 2026 is taking place on 23rd to 25th May in Kent and we are looking for volunteers to help at a checkpoint at this annual LDWA event.  This is generally hard work but amusing and rewarding.  It has been said that the event is run for the entertainment of the volunteers. 

No previous experience is required, a sense of humour and being able to work in total chaos is an advantage.  We need people to help out with simple catering (sandwiches and toast), making tea and coffee and filling water bottles but mostly looking after tired hungry people who need to be encouraged to eat, drink and carry on walking. 

We are manning a joint checkpoint with Dorset, as we did this year. 

The checkpoint is at Edenbridge (north of East Grinstead) and the provisional opening hours are 03.00 - 18.00 on Sunday 24 May.  It is at mile 70 of the route and at the end of a long stretch from the breakfast stop (nearly 9 miles). We will be providing hot and cold drinks and a snack menu before sending the walkers on 5 miles to a hot meal at the Devon and Cornwall checkpoint.  Expect tired walkers with sore feet who need a friendly face and plenty of tea.

It’s a long stint and we are hoping to have sufficient volunteers to have two overlapping shifts.

On the social side we plan to make a long weekend of it.  If you don’t want to walk there is plenty to do including visiting Ightham Mote, Chartwell and Hever. Following is an outline of the weekend.

Friday 22 May

Meet mid morning for a moderate length walk in the area.

Evening meal (likely near Meopham)

Saturday 23 May

Meet up at the start at Meopham (south of Gravesend) to see the walkers off at 10.00, followed by a circular walk taking in an early checkpoint or two

An early supper (likely near Edenbridge)

Accommodation

People walking the event tend to book accommodation near the start.  Those on the checkpoint tend to choose to be near the checkpoint.
