Wiltshire LDWA

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to my first newsletter as secretary of the Wiltshire LDWA. Here are details for entering and volunteering for the Pewsey Downsaround and also some special walks that are coming up soon.

Pewsey Downsaround

As I am sure you all know the Pewsey Downsaround is our group’s one main challenge event in the year.  This year it will take place on Sunday 27th April 2025. It is still 3 months away but planning has already started.

Entries are online, via SIEntries, and you can enter at https://www.sientries.co.uk/event.php?event_id=14950

There are 4 routes: 10 miles, 17 miles, 26 miles and 35 miles. All the routes start from Pewsey, taking in many of the classic views of the area.

It would be great to see as many of you as can make it on the event!

Volunteers

Many thanks to those of you who have already volunteered. You will be contacted soon with a draft rota. We are still a little tight on numbers and would welcome more volunteers; the jobs include participant registration, dealing with queries at Pewsey Scout Hut and checking tags; helping with food preparation, dispensing (the provided) food and drink and clearing up at the four checkpoints.

Baking

The event is famous for the quality of its food; all produced by Wiltshire LDWA members. As always we rely on volunteers to bake for the event.  If anyone can contribute baked goods (cakes, flapjacks, scones, pizza or other sweet or savoury treats) could they let Janette know (alexthecat48@icloud.com).

Ideally they need to be brought to Pewsey Scout Hut on the morning of the event but if you contact Janette in advance she can usually arrange an  alternative arrangement.

We are happy to reimburse the cost of ingredients

From our walks secretary Lucy Robins

We have two special walks coming up this year.

The first one is on Good Friday, 18th April, Nags and a Noggin', led by John French. The walk is 14 miles from Lambourn and includes a tour of some local stables. The cost for the tour is £5 a head.

To book a place please make a payment on our payment page.

Full details on our website.

The second one is on Saturday 28th June and is the Coln River Walk.

This walk is a 33 mile linear walk. We will park in Lechlade and get a minibus to Winchcombe to the start of the walk. The cost of this walk is £5 a head.

Please book your place by making a payment on our payment page.

This walk is limited to 16 people so book soon to avoid disappointment.

Best Regards

Sue
