Hi everyone,
Welcome to my last newsletter. As was previously announced, I will be stepping down as the group's secretary at our forthcoming AGM. Here's a reminder of the formal notice for the meeting, followed by the arrangements for xmas meal and walk.
Annual General Meeting (AGM)
- Date: Sunday 8th December 2024 (following a walk and xmas meal)
- Venue: Egypt Mill Hotel & Restaurant, Stroud Road, NAILSWORTH, Gloucestershire, GL6 0AE
I've decided to step down as the group's Secretary, after my second 3-year term in the last 7 years. We therefore have a vacancy on the committee. If you wish to nominate yourself or someone else (with their agreement), please contact me.
Motions are also invited from members for discussion at the AGM.
Nominations and motions must be received by the group's Secretary by Sunday 1st December 2024.
Xmas Meal & Walk

With the wet, windy, and cooler weather we start to think of wintery activities. And one that is always in the calendar and always on the same date is Christmas, with the LDWA Christmas walk & lunch always the one that starts the December roundabout. A wonderful way to start December. This year the LDWA Wiltshire Lunch will be held Egypt Mill Hotel & Restaurant, Nailsworth. We have a private room booked and a lovely looking menu. Details of the menu, location, and what action you need to do if you want to join are detailed below.
Two things you need to bear in mind are:
- The key dates for ensuring you are on the invite list.
- You need to have paid and selected your menu options beforehand if you want to join.

Key Dates
The event – Sunday 8th December 2024 (walk start 09:00, lunch 13:30). Menu options and payment need to be received by Friday 15th November. Reminders will be sent at the end of October and a week before the cut-off date.
Festive Menu
Two courses £32.95 | Three courses £36.95. VE = vegan, V = vegetarian and NGO = no gluten option
Starters
- Potted mackerel, toasted sourdough, pickled shallots & cucumber, herb aioli (NGO)
- Curried cauliflower soup, seeded onion loaf, crispy parsnip (V, VE, NGO)
- Caramelised onion & gruyere tart, romesco sauce, rocket salad (V)
- Smoked chicken terrine, onion chutney, mini tin loaf
Mains
- Roast turkey, braised red cabbage, confit carrot, chestnut and cranberry stuffing, sauteed sprouts chestnuts & pancetta, pigs in blankets, red wine jus (NGO)
- Vegan wellington, braised red cabbage, sautéed sprouts, chestnut red wine vegan jus (V, VE)
- Pan seared sea bass, confit peppers & apple, bubble & squeak, almond lobster bisque (NG)
- Crispy pork belly, black pudding bon bons, roast baby new potatoes, baby apples, calvados jus (NGO)
- Chestnut & truffle risotto (V, VE, NG)
Desserts
- Christmas pudding, brandy cream & mulled cider cranberry compote (V, NGO)
- Vanilla pannacotta, poached winter fruits & brandy snap (V, NG)
- Chocolate brownie, chocolate fudge sauce, blue vanilla ice cream (V, NG)
- Vegan winter berry pavlova, raspberry sorbet, mulled wine syrup (V, VE, NG)
Subsidy details
The meal is subsided thanks to the hard work of those who volunteered and baked for the PDA, and we would be very grateful if people could help on the day or bake for next year’s event on Sunday 27th April 2025. Subsidy details are as follows:
- You will pay £15 for the three courses
- You will pay £10 for the two courses

Please note that we cannot refund payments, do please bear this in mind when you make your booking. Let me know if there are any special allergies / food intolerances that need to be communicated to Egypt Mill and I’ll co-ordinate as part of the group booking.
Walk & Location details

Volunteers (Always) Needed
LDWA groups around the country are gearing up to host a full programme of group and challenge events. The Wiltshire group is no different. Although preparation for our events is well under way, volunteers may still be required for the following:
