Information for Entrants and Supporters

Car Parking

Parking at HQ is limited to entrants for the event and marshals. Car parking is available from 7am on Saturday 25th May until 12 noon on Monday 27th May. Please park carefully as instructed by marshals.

Camping and Camper Vans

Camping is permitted at HQ for participants from 4pm on Friday 24th May. Camper vans may be parked at HQ from 4pm on Friday 24th May, and participants (only) are allowed to sleep in them. Marshals will direct parking of camper vans and the location of tents.

Supporters

Supporters add to the atmosphere of the event by encouraging participants by meeting them at checkpoints or other points on the route and perhaps accompanying them for short parts. However, it is essential that supporters do not get in way of the event operation or of local residents. This particularly applies to HQ and nearby residential streets, but there are also some checkpoints that are inappropriate for supporters because of limited parking space or narrow roads.

The following checkpoints may be suitable for supporters meeting entrants. It is important that supporters park with consideration for others. Note that walkers and marshals have priority in checkpoints and at busy times there may not be space for supporters inside checkpoints.

Nethy Bridge, Grantown on Spey, Tomintoul, Glenlivet, Dufftown, Aberlour, Grantown on Spey, Nethy Bridge.

The following checkpoints are NOT suitable for supporters meeting entrants.

Cromdale, Ballcorach, Recletich, Tamdhu, Advie

Entrants will be held accountable for the behaviour of their supporters in connection with the event, particularly at checkpoints and at Walk HQ. Entrants should therefore ensure that their supporters do not visit the checkpoints identified above to be kept supporter free. Given the potential seriousness of any incident, those individuals behaving irresponsibly or without due care and attention of their surroundings will be brought to the attention of the checkpoint manager who will expect immediate cooperation and compliance with any reasonable request.

Maps

You are reminded that entrants must carry OS 1:25,000 maps Explorer 424, OL57, OL61 and OL62, or the equivalent printed out versions from your mapping software provided that there is at least 1km border on either side of the route. Alternatively OS 1:25,000 maps in downloaded electronic format will be allowed provided durability and adequate power supply for 48 hours can be demonstrated if requested by a marshal.

For those who would like a souvenir or map to get an overview of the route, the entire route just fits onto a single OS 1:50,000 Large (folded or flat) Custom Made Map centred at NJ 130350 (close to Advie checkpoint). Note that this map CANNOT be used instead of the 1:25,000 maps that must be carried on the walk.
