Whilst the tarmac cannot be avoided you can walk the entire route or jump on the subway if it all gets too much. You may even do some shopping on the way!

The Glasgow Subway – also known as the Clockwork Orange – provides an underground transport system. It was opened on December 14, 1896, and is the third oldest underground metro system in the world, after the London Underground and the Budapest Metro.
