The original Blubberhouses Moor 25 circuit was organised for some 25 years by Alec Bottomley and Laurie Turner but others had been involved in devising the route including Derek Jennings who was a founder member of the Nidderdale Group of the LDWA.

Following Derek's death his family and the Nidderdale Group wanted to remember him with a memorial walk. Alec agreed to the Blubberhouses Moor route being revived but to distinguish the occasion Nidderdale Group proposed to go in the reverse direction (e.g. anticlockwise). The event took place on Sunday 5th April 2009 and was well received. As a result the Nidderdale Group has been organising the Blubberhouses Moor as a Challenge Event since 2010.

The route as originally devised was 25 miles in length hence the title of the event.  Subsequent opening up of permissive paths beside the reservoirs and the Washburn have resulted in today’s slightly shorter route so the "25" has been dropped.
