Group Social Walks

We welcome members and friends on our social walks. Please bear in mind the following points.
  • Walks depart at the time stated on the programme so please arrive at least 5 minutes beforehand.
  • It is recommended that you confirm with the walk leader a few days before a walk that you will be coming in case of any changes to the arrangements.
  • Very occasionally it is necessary to cancel a walk at the last minute (e.g. when police advise not to travel because of weather conditions). In that case a notice will be put on this website and an email sent to members of the group.
  • Remember that the weather can change quickly, so carry enough warm, waterproof and windproof clothing, including hat and gloves, to cope with 'Scottish' weather.
  • Bring a packed lunch and enough water for the day. Some bring a flask with a hot drink. We do not normally stop at a café or hostelry during walks.
  • We ask that you carry an ICE (in case of emergency) card at the top of your rucksack with details of your emergency contact and any medical conditions. You should carry a small first-aid kit with plasters, etc. and any personal requirements.
Leaders are not allowed to give walk participants any tablets or lotions.
  • Photos may be taken on the walk which may be published on the website, Facebook page or in Strider (the LDWA magazine) - please let the walk leader know if you object to appearing in such photographs.
  • The LDWA insurers require us to keep a list of participants on walks with name of participant and LDWA membership number or phone number or email address. This will be held securely for three years.
  • If you wish to bring a dog on a walk please check with the leader beforehand. Dogs must be on a lead anywhere near livestock and at the request of the leader. Dogs must be covered by pet owners' liability insurance and are not covered by LDWA insurance.
  • After participating in three LDWA local group walks you are expected to join the National LDWA if you wish to continue coming on walks.
