Trossachs Trundle

The Trossachs Trundle is a 22.4 mile Challenge Event intended for walkers and runners on a circular route from Callander and circumnavigates Loch Venachar in the scenic Trossachs with 3350ft (1020m) ascent.

The route starts and finishes at the HQ at Kirk Hall, Callander (GR NN629077). We start out walking through Callander then up to Bracklinn Falls, going over Callander Crags with beautiful views over Ben Vorlich and Stuc a' Chroin in one direction, and Loch Venachar and Ben Ledi to the other.  We then go back down through the other side of Callander and join the Rob Roy Way to reach the first checkpoint at Bochastle (7.6 miles). Turning west, we continue the walk along the Great Trossachs Path above the north side of Loch Venachar to the next checkpoint at Brig o'Turk (13.7 miles). After crossing Black Water and through the Achray Farm, maybe stopping to sample one of the many unusual goat milk ice creams, we return to the HQ along the south shore of Loch Venachar, with a checkpoint at  19.1 miles, finishing through Coilhallan Wood back to the HQ. The route is mainly on good tracks, paths and private roads.

The event HQ is at Kirk Hall, Callander (GR NN629077). There are two nearby pay and display carparks, one behind the old Dreadnought Hotel and the other by the River Teith, or parking on some streets may be possible. The event starts at 9am on 12th September 2026 with registration from 8.00am, though faster walkers and runners start at 10.30am. Participants must leave the Brig o'Turk checkpoint by 3.15pm and finish by 7pm.

Light snacks will be provided at the 7.6mile and 19.1 mile checkpoints with more substantial snacks at the Brig o'Turk 13.7 mile checkpoint and hot food will be served at the finish. 

Certificates will be given to all entrants.

The entry fee is £22 for LDWA members and £25 for non-members. Entries must be made online through SiEntries at https://www.sientries.co.uk/event.php?event_id=16992  Entries open on March 23rd and close on 5th September to assist catering. No entries will be accepted on the day. There is a limit of 80 entrants.

You can cancel your entry with a refund minus a £5 (administration fee) up to and including Sunday 30th August 2026. After that time the option to cancel / refund will no longer be available.

The rules of the event are given below and by entering you agree to following the rules. In particular you should wear or carry clothing suitable for all weather conditions which can change dramatically during the day (the Marshals' Walk experienced all four seasons, including snow and warm sunshine, in one day!). Footwear should have tread with a good grip - in particular the path over Callander Crags is quite steep and rocky in places and can be slippery.

NO DOGS are allowed to accompany entrants on the event.

There is a risk assessment for the event.

Conditions of Entry

By entering the event, you confirm that you have read, understood and will comply with the following conditions:

1. I have read, and agree to abide by, the rules of the event and to follow the Scottish Access Code at all times.
2. I confirm that I am in good health and have no medical condition that may cause undue concern or inconvenience to others.
3. I have sufficient skills to take part in the event and in all conditions.
4. I understand that I participate at my own risk and that no liability is accepted by the organisers for any injury, damage or loss sustained by me during the event.
5. I understand photographs are likely to be taken at the event, which may be featured in Strider magazine or on LDWA websites and LDWA social media.
6. I understand that Summary Information may be published immediately in the event results and may be held in perpetuity for the purposes of providing a record of the event.
7. Heart of Scotland LDWA will make all reasonable efforts to remove material from its website and on social media channels under its control, if requested to do so by any entrant so featured.
8. The organisers reserve the right to cancel the event, for example in exceptionally bad weather, in which case entry fees will be returned.

Event rules

1. Entrants must be 16 years or over on 12th September 2026. Those under 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
2. You must start at 9am or 10.30am. You may not leave checkpoints before the stated opening time but must leave by the closing time.
3. You are responsible for your own route finding, safety and for following the specified route.
4. You should ensure that you are recorded by the marshals at each checkpoint and that your tally card is clipped.
5. You must complete the route by 7pm (10 hours for a 9am start). Participants must leave the Brig o'Turk checkpoint by 3.30pm. Checkpoint marshals may time out entrants if the in their opinion this time limit may be exceeded or if entrants are deemed unfit to continue.
6. Should you have to retire please do so at a checkpoint unless in an emergency. Transport will be arranged back to HQ. Under no circumstances should you retire or leave the event without informing a marshal or official.
7. Dogs are not allowed on the event.
8. You must carry or wear the following kit: Official route description; OS Map or electronic version (with adequate batteries) at 1:50,000 or 1:25,000 scale; compass; whistle; waterproof top and overtrousers; fleece or warm layer; boots or trainers with good tread; torch; personal first aid kit; emergency rations; mug.
9. Marshals may disqualify entrants in breach of event rules.
