Basildon Highline, Wednesday 4th August 20219 walkers, 11.5 miles - leader Ron Williamson
An opportunity to discover the greener side of Basildon attracted 9 members on what turned out to be a perfect day for walking. Just half a mile of tarmac but almost 11 miles of pleasant pathways interspersed with the obligatory half-mile of nettle and bramble were explored. Our way was through ancient woodland ablaze in the dappled sunshine, across flower-rich grassland meadows with panoramic views towards London and the Thames Estuary whilst skirting round areas of dense scrubland and managing a respectable height gain of some 1100ft.
A great example of well managed Green Belt land on the edge of some of the most densely populated areas of South-East Essex and only a few miles from the M25, well worth a visit.
