Walk Report

North Downs from Chessington, Saturday 25th July 2020
6 walkers, 22.2 miles - leader Jerome Ripp
A footpath starts opposite Chessington South station and soon we were in the Horton country park and the Thames Down Link. Apart from a diversion around Ashtead Common this was followed to the Garden House although there is no sign of a garden or a house. Some lovely paths in Cherkley woods and then a steep descent to Lodgebottom road and equally steep ascent. Along the edge of Headley Heath to the rather dreary village of Boxhill but then there was the compensation of a fine section on the North Downs Way and the woodlands of the Box Hill Country Park in which we had our alfresco lunch.
Juniper Bottom led to the steep step climb up White Hill to Mickleham Downs and the Thames Down Link again.
Back at the Garden house we headed west through the suburbs of Leatherhead and Ashtead before another section of Ashtead Common. For a shot of cultural variety we hit the crowds coming out of Chessington World of Adventure (no masks or social distancing in sight) before a final little hill. Despite the afternoon rain it was much enjoyed by all.
