Walk Report

Surrey Hills Tour, Saturday 18th July 2020
6 walkers, 22.7 miles - leader Jerome Ripp
A gentle start across the vast Effingham Common from the station but soon the group was tested with a commando course in the Woodland Trust area of Great Ridings Plantation. They all passed with flying colours, and so it was back to the more sedate Horsley Trail passing several Lovelace bridges connected with Ada Lovelace, one of the first computer programmers. The hills beckoned and we hit the North Downs Way which was then followed to Westhumble where we had lunch in a tiny garden area just beside a house linked to the writer Fanny Burney. The Mole Gap Trail was followed north to the edge of Leatherhead then back into the hills above Norbury Park, and a lovely route through the woods close to Polesden Lacy before heading north to Effingham, Little Bookham and the final stretch across Great Bookham Common. Rather longer than the advertised 20 miles but we all agreed it was an "Effingham good walk"
