Walk Report
A North Farthing Riddle, Saturday 4th July 20206 walkers, 20.85 miles - leader Gavin Fuller
After all the decent weather since lockdown began it was probably inevitable that the first social walks allowable since would take place under a pall of grey skies with intermittent precipitation. Nevertheless there was the maximum allowable complement of 5 walkers joining the leader at Riddlesdown for a jaunt out to the North Downs and back again, which finished up with a total of 1,495feet of ascent on a walk which took in the varied delights of the grounds of Woldingham School, the viewpoint on Gravelly Hill (alas with visibility somewhat less than the 40 miles the leader had experienced earlier in the year), the views across London from White Hill, one of Surrey's strangest villages, Farthing Down, Happy Valley and Coulsdon and Kenley Commons before a final steep ascent back to the start. As the only person who walked any distance to the start was the leader himself, a glutton for punishment, the full walk was an extra couple of miles more than originally promised; fortunately nobody complained and they all got back safely to the start.
