Entries Still Open
The registration and participation period for the 'Chairman's Challenge' is from 1st July to 31st July, but because of the way our system operates a single date of 31st July has had to be inserted otherwise, once the initial date has been passed, which it now has, the event will be automatically removed and hidden. I hope that makes sense. TG

Route
To join in with the July Challenge you do not need to go to West Berkshire, or indeed anywhere. You can walk in your own local area, in your own house or on any actual Long Distance Path, whether local to you or as part of a longer outing. The main thing is, as before, you should only log the distance you cover in any one hour of each day. If you can walk 3.25 miles each day you will reach the magic 100 miles in the month

Even though the restrictions on exercise are being eased across the UK, the May Challenge was attractive to many LDWA members who for one reason or another could not manage long distances. However, the challenge of walking just over 3 miles a day, each day in the month, was not only achievable, but also gave many a focus. The challenge is open to EVERYONE, regardless of how little or how far they can walk - the only request we make is that people should only record the distance they cover in any one hour of daily activity.

Quite apart from the exercise itself, the associated Facebook page for those on social media, was hugely successful in creating a friendly and supportive community for sharing photographs and experiences, especially at a time when group walks were suspended. It is, though, quite possible to participate without using Facebook as the spreadsheet is held on the member pages of the LDWA website.

The May challenge was also attractive to our international members, a number of whom walked their 100 miles in some very exotic surroundings. The July Challenge would give our members abroad a chance to walk a real LDP in the UK without the cost and effort of travelling to the UK!

General Notes
If you are participating in the challenge in your home or your own local area then the virtual Long Distance Path you will be following is The Chairman’s Walk. Each day the route and description of what you would see will be posted on Facebook, for those who will be joining on social media. If you wish to have your own copy of the book then West Berkshire Ramblers, who are fully supportive of the LDWA using this route for the challenge, have kindly offered to provide copies for only the cost of P&P and available from https://www.wberksramblers.org.uk/information/books.html
