Marshland
The overcast sky encloaked us with gloom
As we walked through the low-lying land
The beauty of this country awakened us
To the pleasures of the fertile flood plain.

We had a sumptuous lunch in a rural pub
Which we left under the afternoon sunshine
While a cool South wind began to blow
Heralding the onset of a violent storm.

The long history of this ancient land
Can be traced through centuries back
The flat lands yielding their memories
As we passed the rustic architecture
Of thatch and box framed dwellings
To an early medieval stone castle.
