Walk Report

19 of us left Pinkney's Drive, Maidenhead on Mary Jones' first walk as a leader. After passing through Littlewick Green to Knowl Hill, and thence to the Thames near Frogmill Farm, we had the morning break. A walk along the crowded Thames Path to Marlow was followed by lunch in a field at the base of Quarry Wood. After our second (and last) climb of the day up to Winter Hill we enjoyed the views across Cock Marsh on the way to Cookham, where Mary was persuaded to let us stop for ice-creams. After following the Green Way under steadily darkening skies, we approached Cannon Court Farm and saw what looked like a checkpoint. This had been prearranged by Mary and was manned by two of her sons and a friend, to supply cold drinks, biscuits and cakes. This highlight of the walk was followed, unfortunately, by a downpour for the next 20 minutes, but we were close to the finish by then, and the rain did stop just before the end.

This was a good day out, and we all look forward to Mary's next excursion.
