Torfaen Loop

Walk Details:

Event Details Updated
Update:- We will meet at Pontpool Leisure centre cp (as previously published), which is free, by 09.30. Then we will catch the 0944 X24 bus to Blaenavon. The cost of a single ticket is £4.50. The walk will follow the most scenic part of the Iron Mountain Trail and then strike down a gentle ridge to Pontypool, which also has good views if the weather is kind. The length of the walk is about 17 ½ miles but there is only one significant ascent (ascent is about 1500 ft in total).  For drivers coming from J25A of the M4 the following information may be useful. On exiting the final roundabout on the way in to Pontypool look out for a sign to the ski slope (a graphic symbol) – which flags a left turn off the dual carriageway. Follow this indicator (and 2 subsequent ones) to turn right and traverse an underpass for the dual carriageway and then immediately left (running parallel with the dual carriageway). Proceed along this road until a sign for the Leisure centre indicates a right turn – take it. Then the CP is about 50 metres down this road on the RHS.
