Having looked deeper, I see that Events can be National, Local or Social. Does 'Social' not involve walking, implying a pub meet, a meal or a quiz ? We consider our Social Walks to be 'Social', as people walk (relatively) slowly, chatting to each other about many things other than walking. In fact, one of the best aspects is that a millionaire can spend all day in conversation with someone out of work and never know. Walking is a great leveller.

I'm sure that things are viewed differently around the groups, but in Norfolk & Suffolk group we have a distinction between a Social Walk (don't pay a fee, just get a walk) and Challenge Walks (pay a fee, get food, walk, route desc, cert etc).

Strider makes the distinction (for us) by separating 'Events' (Challenges) from 'Local Group News' (Social).

The website mixes things up. It does refer to 'National' and 'Local', but does a newcomer know what to expect ? Perhaps some explanation could be added ?
