I've discovered that there are a number of local web sites beeing set up as a result of the government's get the UK active initiative being promoted by a group called Sport England (see http://www.sportengland.org ). The local sites appear to be county based though the ones (Dorset, Hampshire & Sussex) I've looked at so far are all different. From what I've seen so far they could be opertunties to promote to promote events and/or group web sites. Try a search on google with "active sport" and a county name and see waht you can find for your area.
