Just bumping this up to say that there have been no new cases of FMD in the last month, but the Surveillance Zone is still in force. The footpaths are officially open, although there have been one or two unauthorised closures. A couple of us are walking the route tomorrow, and if we find any more closures we will be in touch with Surrey County Council, and have one of the Marshals walk out in advance of the mass start to check the route is open.

We are sensitive to the concerns of the local farmers, so we will have at least one disinfectant foot dip, either at the start or on route.

The route falls within the Surveillance Zone, not the Protection Zone, so footpaths are open. If there is any change we will update the website.

The Founders Challenge is organised by the LDWA London Group, whose website currently says:-
"Foot And Mouth: The group is closely monitoring the situation in accordance with the latest DEFRA guidelines. At present all scheduled walks are due to go ahead."

I know it is still early days, but has anyone thought of the possible effects of the latest foot and mouth outbreak on the running of this year's Founders Challenge? Having suffered the disappointment due to the cancellation of the Pewsey Downaround, I would be devastated if this one is cancelled too.
