There is a good bus service https://www.bluestarbus.co.uk/services/SQ/9
not as much fun as the ferry but does a good job
If you live in the area or stay on locally the walk can be done in day trips using buses and trains fir access
The bit east of Lymington can only be done on certain days of the week but otherwise the services are good

The Solent Way is a 60 mile long distance path that runs between Milford-on-Sea and Emsworth in Hampshire.
Part of this route uses the Hythe Ferry to cross Southampton Water from Hythe to Town Quay. Although the ferry was supported during earlier lockdowns, it ceased operating on Christmas Eve. In late February it was announced that even after the previous help it has a large deficit and is unlikely to resume operations when the lockdown is lifted.
It has also been reported that Hampshire County Council are 'in discussions with New Forest and Southampton councils over ways to help the operator'.
A cautionary note has been placed on our webpage for the Solent Way.
