This may be of interest to anyone thinking about walking the Wales Coast Path in the next two years, particularly the section around Barmouth. It also affects nine other paths listed on the LDP database.
This information, from The Wales Coast Path website, has been passed to me by an LDWA member. A note will be added to the appropriate web pages and it will be included in the next edition of Strider.
If anyone finds information such as this for any of our Long Distance Paths throughout the country, please get in touch and we will take any necessary action.
‘Work to start upgrading the 150 year old Barmouth Viaduct starts in September 2020. It will affect the route of the path as it goes over the viaduct across the Mawddawch Estuary and continues south towards Fairbourne. During this upgrade the bridge will be closed temporarily on certain dates.
An alternative route is being looked into for walkers on the path and will be posted on this page. If you are planning to walk in this area, we suggest you also follow Network Rail social media for updates'.
