Hello Martin, welcome to the LDWA and in particular the Long Distance Path Database. There is a wealth of knowledge in the Database which has been amassed over many years.

Probably the best place to start for you would be to click on the ‘Search for an LDP’ link on the ‘LDP Home Page’.

This gives you several options:
Path Name
Show paths passing within
Path distance
Area
Waymarked
Circular Walk
Path Type

I would recommend starting with the ‘Show paths passing within’ option and click on the option of say 3 miles of a specific town. This will generally give you plenty of footpath options from which you can choose a specific path, giving you options to download GPX files.

There is more detailed information about the database on the ‘How to use the LDP Database’ and ‘Long Distance Paths FAQs’ sections.

Enjoy delving into the Database but be warned, this can become addictive.’
