Is anyone else planning a full or partial reccy over the Easter holiday?
My schedule is a 4-day reccy of around 25ml per day. All digs already booked.
It starts with a drive from South Wales to Hastings on Thurs 29th March.

Thurs 29th - stay at Premier Inn Hastings. Leave car there.
Fri 30th start walking to reach Tenterden B&B.
Sat 31st walk to Dymchurch B&B.
Sun 1st walk to Dover East Premier Inn.
Mon 2nd walk the "top loop" and back to Dover East Premier Inn. Stay overnight .
Tues 3rd bus/train(s) to Hastings then drive home to S Wales.

On my 100 reccies I sometimes find I meet other LDWA colleagues walking similar schedules, albeit on different days/from start points &c.
Just wonder who might also be reccying this Easter?

For a recce three Stagecoach buses likely to be of use .

Hastings – Tenterden – Route 2 NOT Sundays (take your Waitrose card for a “free” coffee for a nominal purchase at Waitrose in Tenterden ! )

“The Wave” runs Hastings – Dover & meets CP100 at various points such as Rye , Lydd , New Romney , Dymchurch , Hythe & Folkestone .

Deal – Dover – Route 80/81 : This passes the finish – if you get a double decker sit upstairs on the right for a sneaky peak into the school grounds immediately after a large roundabout !

There is a useful map of the bus routes to plan a recce

If you are planning to recce over consecutive days a South East 7 Day Megarider for £24 (inc 50p cost of buying an oyster style card) is probably the cheaper & most convenient option : buy from driver , contactless card payment accepted .

A Stagecoach 11/11A/11B timetable* shows buses running Mon-Fri and Saturdays between Ashford and New Romney on routes which include Appledore and Lydd. Doesn't appear to be a summer season service.

Contact entries secretary Phyl Butler. Details on website home tab. They'll also be available at the start and the finish if you want a pristine one to keep.

Hi. Quick question. Is it to late to order a souvenir map? If so, how do I go about this?

Cheers, Pete.

The latest version of the RD now on the website reflects what will appear on the souvenir map. Following are a mix and match of public transport tips to help those who want to reconnoitre the route to put together a series of walks depending on their days available and mileage targeted.

Good bus & train connection.
Might suit an arrival day walk

HASTINGS to TENTERDEN 25miles
No2 bus. No service Sundays but hourly other days
TENTERDEN to HYTHE 29miles
No2 bus. Change at Ashford for No10
There is a bus from Tenterden to Rye (312) 7 each weekday, 4 on Saturdays for connections to intermediate CPs

RYE to APPLEDORE 20 miles
1 stop on the train (9 mins). NB Appledore station is 1.3 miles of B road walking from the village.
APPLEDORE to FOLKESTONE 33 miles
Change trains at Ashford. Folkestone station is 1 urban mile from the route.

RYE to LYDD 29 miles
No100 bus, 2 per hour, 1 on Sundays (35 mins)
LYDD to DOVER
Bus No100 parallels the route allowing any convenient combination. 4 per hour, 2 on Sundays

FOLKESTONE to SANDWICH
Direct trains stop at Dover-Deal-Sandwich allowing convenient combinations.

DOVER to FINISH 30miles
It is a 1.5 mile walk from DoYRMS back into Dover

A stagecoach 7 day south east megarider ticket £23.50 cover all journeys across the route area.
