Route
(About 14miles. Hilly. Start 9.00am at Danes Road Staveley nearest post code LA8 9PR grid ref SD 461 983. Coming from the M6 along the A591 take the second entrance to Staveley onto Danes Road which is the main road into the top end of the village. Immediately on your left is the entrance to a dead end section of road where we will meet up. There is some free on road parking in this dead end section of road and plenty of free on road parking further down Danes Road. The route takes us out of Staveley down the right hand side of the valley with a gradual ascent over the side of Green Quarter Fell before descending down into Kentmere. There is a pleasant spot in the churchyard for a bite to eat and a brew. We then take the quite steep ascent up Garburn Pass and turn left at the top up onto Sallows, our first Wainwright. It is then a pleasant walk along the sweeping ridge to the top of Sour Howes, our second Wainwright. This is a good spot for another break and a brew. From there it is all downhill to join the level path running back down the opposite side of the valley to Staveley. A mixture of a few quiet roads, farm tracks and mainly good foot paths. Excellent views. Dogs are welcome. Although this is a hilly route, the only ascent of any difficulty is up Garburn Pass, which comes and goes relatively quickly. Early start to allow an easy pace. No need to book, just turn up.)
