Newsletter - February 2023

Hi everyone,

Let's start with another group photograph, taken on Bruce Barclay's recent Anglo-French walk out of Box in Wiltshire. Our 17-mile route included a welcome stop at the coffee van in Colerne, before heading over to Biddestone, and returning via Corsham. I know it's only February, but our leader has already dropped off my xmas card list for this year, following the unnecessary climb in the closing stages of the walk! Only joking, Bruce, the walk was brilliant!

Bruce's January Walk

Valerie, Andy, Sarah, Eley, Bruce, Janette, Nikki, Lucy, David, Simon, Catherine, Graham, Andy and John

In this month's newsletter:

  • A summary of what was discussed at our recent committee meeting;
  • Monopoly Board walk; and
  • The usual round-up of Forthcoming Walks

Committee Meeting held on 25th January 2023

The key points from our recent committee meeting are as follows:

  • Entries for the Pewsey Downsaround (PDA) are still slightly down on the same time last year;
  • Andy Todd is reviewing the situation regarding volunteers. The committee decided that 'shifts' weren't needed. Instead volunteers will be asked what hours they are prepared to do, and the roster developed accordingly;
  • Janette Armstrong accepted our invitation to formerly join the committee;
  • More volunteers are needed at Checkpoint 11 on the Elephant, Bear and Bull 100 in May;
  • Phil Heneghan presented the latest accounts which will appear in the minutes;
  • Lucy Robins has expressed interest in taking over the treasurer's role;
  • Stephen Carver will begin chasing walk leaders for details of their forthcoming walks; and
  • The next committee meeting will take place on Wednesday 22nd March 2023 @ 1900hrs.

The minutes will be published on the Wiltshire LDWA website shortly.

Monopoly Board Walk on 16th April 2023

In case you haven't seen it, I'm leading a walk around the places that appear on the classic version of the Monopoly Board game. It will take place the day after this year's Capital Challenge. The walk has already attracted some interest from other LDWA groups, not least the London group, who we'll be meeting under the clock at Waterloo Station at 10am before proceding to 'GO', which is believed to be Lambeth North underground station. Please note, that unless I win the Euromillions lottery draw the preceding Friday, no one will be receiving £200! Details of the walk can be found at
