Newsletter - July 2020

Welcome to the July 2020 edition of the Wiltshire LDWA Newsletter. Whilst we still await the return of regular organised walks, it's probably more important than ever that we continue to communicate with our members.

In this month's newsletter:

  • Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update;
  • Group E-mail Addresses;
  • Bea's Retirement Project; and
  • Name The Path

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

On 19th June 2020 the LDWA NEC issued guidelines regarding the resumption of organised walks. Please click HERE to view them.

The Wiltshire LDWA committee is of the opinion that it will be difficult for us to provide a satisfactory programme of walks in these circumstances. All the group's previously advertised social walks, therefore, remain cancelled.

However, we invite anybody who is willing to lead an 'unofficial' walk, for up to 6 walkers, to email the details to Bruce Barclay at He will then e-mail the details to the group's membership, but not associate members. Recipients should then contact the walk leader directly, with places being reserved on a first come, first served basis.

Group E-mail Addresses

Each of the committee members now has an official LDWA e-mail address. Therefore can you please get used to sending us e-mails using one or more of the following:

Bea's Retirement Project

From Bea Therin:

"It’s at times like this that you realise that the shared experiences / fun etc ... we’ve all have together is on hold. And as a sort of thank you and let’s look forward to walking all together again, I had a thought about setting myself a project – to put together the favourite walks of my walking buddies and share them amongst the group (not quite sure what form this will take – something for me to research likely to be an electronic ‘pdf’ book). If you want to get involved all I ask from you is to select you favourite walk (or 2 if you can’t make your mind up). If you want to join forces with others please do.

If you like to contribute then give some thought to the following:

  • The details (don’t worry if you haven’t got everything as I start compiling things I’ll be in touch);
  • Any history / links to the area / pics / how you came across the walk (these really optional);
  • Distance can be short or long;
  • It needs to be in the UK; and
  • You're willing share the details with others.

Timewise I’d like to have all the details by early July. Please be clear this is not a LDWA activity, and has no financial agenda. It’s simply about keeping in touch with friends that I’ve made over a long time, and who I cannnot walk with at the present time. It would be so nice to a least be able to do favourite walk of yours , as well as an opportunity to stay connected and all of us to share what we’ve seen on your favourite walk."

Name The Path

The answer to last month's Name The Path was the Wysis Way, which links the River Thames at Kemble to the River Wye in Monmouth.

In the continued absence of any forthcoming walks, here's another challenge for you. Simply name this long distance path. You'll find it in the LDWA's online database. Good luck!

Name The Path

This e-mail has been sent to 500+ Primary and Associate group members. If you wish to opt out of receiving e-mails from us, you will need to change your e-mail preferences by logging onto the LDWA website.

That's it for another newsletter. All our newsletters are available via the Wiltshire LDWA website. If you have anything to contribute to future editions, please can you get it to me by the 20th of each month. I look forward to seeing you out on our group walks later in the year.

Warmest regards

Secretary of the Wiltshire LDWA
