Wiltshire LDWA

A pale imitation of a newsletter you may be thinking....yes, a change of editor has occurred.

A message from Graham

You may have heard that Clive, who has been such a stalwart of our committee, has stood down as Secretary, at his own request.

I want to thank him personally and on behalf of the committee, for all his hard work and support, particularly during the difficult period of 2020 to date, and to wish him well.

Carol Holmes, another stalwart, kindly agreed to fill the void, at least until the AGM and is already making an impression by helping us to implement the welcome return of our social walks.

Graham Instrell  Chairman Wiltshire LDWA

I will join Graham and begin as new secretary by thanking Clive for his work for the Wiltshire group over the past few years.   As the administration of voluntary groups gets more complicated, I can see that Clive mastered it, rose above it and also produced monthly newsletters which were accessible, funny and very informative.

I would personally also like to thank him for his advice and the support he gave me as new secretary when he decided, a few weeks ago, that he was unable to continue.

Thank you Clive

On other matters: this newsletter was going to welcome the positive news about being able to walk in larger numbers again, but (I should have sent it yesterday!) sadly we seem to be thwarted again and walks are back to a maximum of six from next Monday 14th, hopefully this is just a temporary restriction.   In the meantime the committee is working to ensure that walks can go ahead, possibly with two leaders.  We now have a total of ten walks, from eight leaders, so thanks to them for their support.  Not all walks are on the national website, but all are listed on the Wiltshire one.

Many thanks to Bruce, this must seem like a full time job for him at present, though sadly with no pay.  More details about his other project below.

Wiltshire members:  please continue to keep Sunday December 6th in your diaries for walk, meal and AGM at the Pewsey Scout Hut.  We are hoping this can take place, please be assured that the greatest minds in the land are working on guidelines for indoor meetings....... so what can possibly go wrong?

And that's it for this month's newsletter.  I hope that you have made of summer what you could, got out and about, maintained fitness, and I look forward to meeting up on a walk soon.

Motion is lotion

Carol

From Bruce Barclay Walk Secretary

You may have seen that details of historical walks are now available in the walks database on the Wiltshire website.  Where available I have been adding GPX files to these historical walks.  This is a fairly slow process because of the need to ensure each walk follows public rights of way or crosses open access land.
