Jim's Jingle

Cowan Head, River Kent near Staveley

Once again the Westmorland and North Lancs group have enjoyed Christmas in February.  It is becoming quite the annual challenge now for Jim to find us a new route out of Staveley each year so that we can continue to return for the excellent service and food at the Eagle and Child who have looked after us now - oooh for ever!

This time the route took us down the River Kent on a lovely frosty morning and then South of the A591 towards Ratherheath Tarn and round in a loop back to Staveley. It really could have been Christmas, the ice on the tarn was thick enough for stone skimming on top.  And there was even a reindeer in a field on the way back - well Roe, but you know, same ahhhh factor!

Jim's walk has become so popular that even Christine, his wife, was finally forced to give it a try and see what all the fuss was about.  Allegedly she only came because Jim told her there was a minimal amount of climbing (that might have been a bit of a fib, then, Jim!).

Jim had also thought ahead, (or planned late, not sure which), to ensure there were Christmas Crackers for us all on the table.  A nice touch which left the other customers wondering if we were the crackers!

I don't know about anyone else but after the meal I slept on the sofa at home for quite a while and still wasn't hungry by breakfast next day.  Well done Jim for another excellent festive feast.
