No More Ducking Out

This was a re-run of a social walk that got washed away in 2008, but I can happily report this year the weather was very much on our side.  It was cool but clear morning at Ribblehead Viaduct, with a threat of dark clouds but they really amounted to nothing during the course of the day.

Ian Dyer had worked it all out perfectly, even making sure the three peaks bacon butty van opened in time for most of us to chomp a quick sarnie before we started out.

We walked over the shoulder of Whernside/Blea Moss down into Dentdale, with superb views along this very nice route.  We then had a gentle meander along the river to Dent where the corner shop provided a choice of take away coffee or ice cream (again, most of us demonstrated our appauling will power and had both!)

Then it was down to business with a sharp pull up onto Occupation Lane, and an even sharper one up onto Great Coum.  Lunch was had by some tucked behind the wall, whilst half of us wasted our lunchbreak trotting along to a little outlying peak called Crag Hill, not an official 2000 footer but at 682 and with a lovely view from the trig point it was well worth the view.  Anyone know if it is in any official lists?

Then it was along the ridge, over damp ground to Gregareth and down to Twistleton Scars where we found another very low but again lovely trig point.

The Ingleton Waterfall ice cream van was the third and final trap for our purses!  We were starting to put on weight!  The walk back along the side of whernside was particularly pleasant  with austere views of Ingleborough over to the East.

It was 6.30 finish and the pub was open so some of us just rounded off the day with our tea in the pub - well, in for pound in for pint as they probably say!

Thanks Ian for making it such a lovely day out and persevering with running it two years running - definitely worth it.
