Two Sides to Every Lake

Coniston Water from Nibthwaite
This walk always promised to be a challenge, with plenty of roller coaster climbs around the fells at the South end of Coniston.

It turned out to be a really blowy day too, so this added value to the challenges we faced. Undaunted by the winds we set out from Sunny Bank to climb up to Beacon Tarn. The A group, made up of one member, split off here to Climb Beacon Fell itself, whilst the rest of us were happy to settle for the little path along the East side of the tarn (hairy enough itself in the strong winds).

We descended for coffee at Water Yeat before tackling the hills East of the Lake including Top 'O' Selside, an outlying Wainwright. On the descent we met an enthusiastic group of youngsters in their Kissu (large shelter tent- good spot for lunch on a windy day). We stopped to chat and they shared their Opal Fruits with us - great these younng lads!.

After a hasty lunch stop in the increasing wind we continued back to the West of the Lake to Climb - oh just about every hill in sight! We tackled Tottlebank Heights, Wool Knott and Woodlands Fell, before returning along a lovely ridge towards Torver Common.

This walk hardly touched civilisation all day, just the way we like it. It was a shame so many of the group were off doing other things today, and we will have to repeat something similar in the future. In the meantime, for those of you who missed it - here are a few shots.
