Christmas in February - A Tale of Staveley

Ann at the front again - what's going on? Molly does stile in style

Despite an interesting weather forecast twenty people and two dogs set off for the morning walk to build up an appetite for our annual Christmas Lunch.  We always have lunch in February, not because we are an odd lot (although there is that!) but because we are always too busy in December to get it together.  By February we are fresh out of parties and really enjoy the novelty.

Eagle and Child has been our chosen venue for the past few years and once again they did us proud with a fantastic four course meal (five courses if you include the Elizabeth Shaw mints) for a bargain price of £14.50.

The walk took us towards a rather snowy Kentmere valley and luckily we had to be back by 1pm so we didn't have to do the Kentmere Horseshoe today!  Just a few gentle ups and downs including the new access land near Wreston Scar and a gentle saunter or two along the river.

So it was a mellow if hungry crowd who sat down to lunch.  Good job we'd been for that walk too because the lunch was absolutely stonkingly large!  But we like a challenge as you know, and most plates went back to the kitchen clean as a whistle.

Well done all, do we get a good eater's badge?

Down to Staveley and lunch
