Devil's on the Roof

Making light work of the hills

After a forecast for more than Devil's to be falling from the big roof in the sky, it was amazing to see 18 sturdy souls turning out for our January walk.

Dave had a well planned route for us, taking all the high level stuff early in the day (Hutton Roof and Farleton Fell) so that once we got down to Holme we could chill out and enjoy the day.  The coffee break was a bit late, but then 'elevensies' would have been a tad uncomfortable in the gales on Farleton Fell. The churchyard at Holme was much more relaxing, and we were then ready for anything.  Anything turned out to be a pleasant walk over hill and dale with what could have been great views over the Dales (still not bad with a bit of a gloomy day).  Lunch was taken in small woodland among the pheasants - a very pleasant pheasant....... oh lets not go there!

After the sarnies were 'plucked' we continued down to Whittington. Dick was not in sight, (which was just as well as we had arrived at the church for our afternoon coffee).  This church is very beautiful with a super setting just above the Lune Valley.  Do visit if you have the chance.  The stroll back along the Lune to Kirkby Lonsdale was a very plesant and we made it back with ooooh about two minutes of daylight to spare.
