Four trigs and five reservoirs, Saturday April 25th

Nine group members and six visitors, four from the South Pennine Group and two from West Yorkshire left the car park at Delph and set off up the steep lane towards our first trig point and monument at Bishops Park. After a week of sunny, unseasonal warm weather, today was cool, grey with the threat of rain imminent. Sure enough by the time we passed through Grains Bar en-route to Brushes Clough, our first reservoir, and the second trig point on Tame Scout, the rain had arrived and continued on and off as we descended to Ogden reservoir. It came down quite heavily as we made our way, above Kitcliffe and Piethorn reservoirs, with Norman Hill reservoir on our right, to our lunch stop.

After lunch we continued over Windy Hill to the transmitters on the Saddleworth road where we picked up the Pennine Way which we stayed on passing our third trig on White Hill and then the final trig on Standedge overlooking the Castleshaw valley. After a short stop in the rocks by the Ammon Wrigley stone, the last couple of miles were along Harrop edge and Rumbles Lane to arrive back at our cars at 3.45pm.
