HAYFIELD

                                                         Hayfield Walk – September 28th

Ten of us met at Hayfield for this walk – six from the group (it was nice to see Nigel out with us again) and four from other groups who we all knew, Dave Shepherd, John Phillips, Steve Osborne and Norman from Rochdale.

After an extremely steep start, which soon warmed us up, we made our way over Chinley Churn walking head on into a strong wind. The descent through old quarry workings and down to the Peak Forest canal was interesting. We had a coffee break at the Bugsworth basin and continued along the canal for a short distance.

An early lunch was taken at the Torrs Riverside Park, just outside New Mills and we then continued along the Millenium walkway, through Hague Bar and on towards the last climb of the day which was Lantern Pike, not a very high spot, but one which has a 360° view all around. Steve pointed out Kinder, Kinder Low, Mount Famine, Chinley Churn and Coombes Edge.

We arrived back at the cars around 4.00pm after a super walk, well led by Glen and backed up by Dave Taylor. The group gelled well together, the craic was good as was the weather and this area for walking was within a very reasonable travelling distance for everyone.

Thanks Glenn, you picked an excellent day for an interesting walk.
