REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY

               REMEMBRANCE  SUNDAY   NOV 11TH

On a bright, sunny morning 24 people set off for the annual service of remembrance held at the Bomber Memorial in Lead Mines valley. This service was started off in 1994 by Eric Unsworth, an earlier and then very active member of West Lancs. Eric researched the history of the plane crash and managed to contact members of the pilot’s family. This service was also attended by members of the Royal Australian Air Force who also accompanied us on the walk after the event. What they made of Abyssinia they kept to themselves!

This year Eric was unable to attend but around 200 people, representing other walking clubs, Bolton Mountain Rescue and individuals, turned up and, as usual, there was a two minute silence to coincide with the one at Whitehall. This was followed by a short service led by a member of Chorley Ramblers and the laying of wreaths and crosses.

Our group continued afterwards with a 10.5 miles walk which took us over Great Hill, Well Lane, White Coppice and a finish using part of the Amble route getting us back to the bottom barn at 3.45pm.
