2014 07 19 Into Lowland Bowland

As I sit here sweltering in my office it seems a long time ago since we walked from Barley to Slaidburn in the pouring rain.

Led by the amiable John Phillips a group of nine set off on the 22mile walk.  Spirits were not dampened by the poor weather but we were all a tad too warm in our waterproofs.  Hazel managed to throw herself on the floor before we’d barely got started and Anne, who was minus lunch, stopped off and treated herself to tea and scones at the tea room in  Bolton by Bowland whilst the rest of us sheltered from the rain on two benches which were conveniently sited under some trees. The route itself which included the ascent of Pendle Hill was varied and not too arduous, passing through several pretty villages and Gisburn forest.  All in all a good day was had with the usual cheeky humour prevailing and making the rain barely noticeable.
