2021 AGM Minutes

Minutes of South Manchester Local Group AGM

16th January 2021


1 The Chairman, David Allen opened the meeting held by Zoom, at 15.04 and welcomed and thanked members for attending.

2 Present  were:-  Avril and David Allen, Quentin Blagg,  Dave Gosling, Carl Harris, Bridget Knight, Steve Millward, Jean and Steve Osborne, Gareth Phillips and Peter Schick

Apologies from:-  David Cliff, Gary Daniels and family, Roger Hand, Michael Magee, Yasmina and Peter Whitehead

All present agreed that the meeting could take place by Zoom, i.e. an e-AGM.

3 The minutes of the 2020 AGM had been circulated earlier and were passed, proposed by Bridget, seconded by Quentin. All agreed.   

4 No matters arising.

5 The Chairman, David reported on activities as per the circulated report and again thanked the many leaders of walks and commented that South Manchester group had run a comprehensive and regular series of walks complying with Covid restrictions

The secretary reported on the level of local group membership.  As of 14th February 2021, there are 217 members. 

6 Bridget had issued the accounts earlier. Before commenting on the balance of £880+. She wished to echo the chairman’s thanks and in particular to Jean for the setting up/administration of a ‘WhatsApp’ group and Ann Robinson for all her Thursday walks.  Of the monies £300 is set aside for a group weekend away when conditions are favourable. This leaves a balance of about £500 and unlikely to have any increase this year as the Goyt Valley Challenge will not run and no money from the 100.

Quentin proposed and seconded by Peter to accept all reports and agreed nem con. Dave G thanked Bridget for the work on the accounts and the statement.

All officers were thanked before electing them on mass. Proposed by Dave G and seconded by Steve M  

Chairman (David Allen), Secretary (Steve), Treasurer (Bridget), Webmaster and Data Inputter (Duncan), Walks Secretary (Michael Magee).

David then proposed that Quentin be co-opted onto the committee to find a replacement chairman for 2022. His appointment was agreed by all.

7a Steve Millward willing to stand as Accounts Reviewer. Steve was thanked and all agreed.

Some discussion about future activities.  If circumstances permit then several members will go to the Longtown area as they still have bookings from 2020. Even though this year’s 100 is cancelled.

Quentin spoke about future 100s to which we have offered our help on the Marshals event.

2022 is the 50th anniversary of the LDWA and the LDWA NEC have asked for groups to come up with ideas. David A. said he would find some walks from the 1970s programme, Quentin – 50 bags of litter collected, and felt sure our members would come up with other ideas incorporating the 50 theme. Gareth suggested 50 ascents of Kinder.

Michael to produce a walk programme for the April STRIDER.

Members were reminded we have a regular Zoom meeting on Friday evenings.

No AOBQuentin reinterated Bridget’s thanks for the meeting. David thanked all for attending and the input to the discussion. The meeting closed at 15.40.
