March 2024 Update
Wow what a wet one! Well done to all the LDWA stalwarts that embraced all the mud and flooding and continued to support the winter walks programme.
The Winter Poppy was certainly challenging this year with the mud underfoot and the heavy rain in the night. This did not however deter the walkers who were helped and encouraged on by the wonderful volunteers marshalling. Thank you to all involved in making it another successful event.
There are some photos on the website of the Poppy and Crumpton’s recent social walk which really show the extent of the flooding…worth a look!
If anybody has any photos they would like putting on the website especially from challenge events please can you forward to me to add to the gallery.
Further if you are unable to attend the social walks you will find the walks database holds a lot of GPX records of the routes which you may prefer to try out in the dry…

Greenspaces, Heritage & A River of Norwich
Group Walk - 18ml. 8:30 Mercure Norwich Hotel, 121, 131 Boundary Rd, Norwich NR3 2BA. Please park in front of The City Suite, immediately you enter the car park from Whiffler Road, NR6 5JD For your information the Whiffler Road postcode is more correct, as it does not correspond with the hotel’s postcode. A walk meandering along the River Yare Valley, visiting several parks, historical buildings, University of East Anglia, Norwich Cemetery, & Marriotts Way Heritage Trail.

Group Walk - 18ml. 9.00 Meet at Stoke by Nayland Recreation Ground, Opposite the primary school, School St, Stoke by Nayland, CO6 4QY. (GR TL985364). A circular Walk From Stoke by Nayland Via Shelly, Holton Hall, Higham and picking up the St Edmunds Way back to Stoke By Nayland.

Group Walk - 19ml. 9.00 Large free car park at 2 Church Plain, Loddon, Norwich, NR14 6LX. (GR TM362987). Loddon then along the Rivers Chet & Yare as far as Langley Dike, then through Carleton St Peter, Ashby St Mary, Mundham Common & Sisland. There is a convenience store next to the car park. There are no other amenities.

Group Walk - 18ml. 9:00 Cemetery Lane c.p, Wymondham, NR18 0JX. (GR TG112010). From Cemetery Lane car park we head out to do a loop around The Lizard & head back towards Wymondham along Strayground Lane to cross first the mainline railway & then the Mid Norfolk railway. A break will be taken at Wymondham Abbey.

Group Walk - 18ml. 9:00 George Street car park, George Street, Brandon, IP27 0BX. Carpark has no charge.. (GR TL785865). From George Street carpark we head out to do a loop around Santon Downham, heading back towards Brandon along Hereward Way / St Edmunds Way.
Can I please ask for walk leaders to come forward as this is the time of year when we usually have a full schedule. It would be nice to get the most of the forthcoming spring days.
