Welcome to Norfolk and Suffolk LDWA

The Norfolk & Suffolk Group is one of around 40 groups affiliated to the Long-Distance Walkers Association. We are a friendly group and always keen to meet new people who are assured of a warm welcome.

We put on a regular programme of social walks, including an annual group weekend away. These are listed on our Upcoming Events page and are typically between 16 and 22 miles in length, utilising the extensive network of footpaths, bridleways and tracks in the area.

We welcome new members to join our walks which we walk at a fairly brisk pace (typically over 3 mph), with a walking time of around 7 hours. Please remember to wear suitable clothing and footwear, and bring enough food to get you through the day, and plenty of water as remaining hydrated is important. We stop for a morning break and at lunchtime, sometimes this might include a pub or cafe. Our walk leaders ask if new people could contact them beforehand as this gives them an opportunity to talk through the walk and answer any questions.

We also usually hold three Challenge Events per year which are open to everyone via SIEntries. These popular events are noted for the quality and quantity of food which is provided. They range in distance from 18 to 50 miles.

We allow dogs on our walks at the walk leader's discretion, providing their owners have third-party insurance cover, and we now require that dogs are kept on a lead throughout the walk.

We don't expect you to join straight away, try us out first. If you would like to become a member, you will need to join the national organisation. This will give you the option to be added to our group mailing list which is worth doing as there are numerous benefits. If you have any questions, please message our group secretary Ray Orman, at norfolkandsuffolk@ldwa.org.uk.
